Ok, I take that back!
By calling on some deep bitbake voodoo, I think I found a way to do this
while preserving all interfaces. However, having this as a stand-alone
improvement of the current implementation requires some ugly hacks
(that would later be cleaned up by my other imaging/imagetypes work).
Much better to have it all in one series.
Will start preparing that for review...
