Since we have ROOTFS_FEATURES in LIST_VARIABLES (see bitbake.conf), a
more elegant way to opt is IMO:

ROOTFS_FEATURES:append = " ~populate-systemd-preset" # (or
alternatively " -populate-systemd-preset")
